Rev’It Pioneer OutDry Boots

After a year in the Rev’It Poseidon Suit (review here and photos here) I am adding the Rev’it Pioneer Boots to my wardrobe. What a boot these are! They are new arrivals to the Rev’It catalogue at the end of 2016 and certainly match the marques now standard high quality. Unboxing them presents you with something that feels and looks like a top-of-the-range hiking boot, right down to the Vibram sole. You also have the very cool BOA closure system that means getting these on and off happens in just seconds. I had no experience with the BOA system before using these boots and its simplicity is brilliant, you slip your foot in, push in the dial, twist it and the boot then laces itself up, and that’s it. Taking off your boots is a matter of pulling the same dial, the laces go slack, and out slips your foot just like slipping off a pair of slippers. I am a bit of a geek so stuff like that really does appeal to me, but it genuinely is a great time saver while giving you a great snug fit.

The photos here are just to give you a good look of the boots. I have just been wearing them a few weeks now and have about 1,500-2,000km done in them now. Most of this has been cold, wet, wind, snow… basically winter riding and they have performed exactly as expected. They are a much larger boot to what they were replacing (a more traditional sport-touring boot) so I did have to adjust the gear selector slightly for the boot to easily change gear. Initially they were very stiff and heavy, but they have softened up a bit since starting to use them. They seem very capable of fending off this winter weather but I look forward to trying them out as it gets warmer later in the year.

What else is great about these boots is that fact that they don’t look like a motorcycle boot, rather that hiking boot style does look a bit more casual. However for the wearer you have an all the features of a proper touring/adventure motorcycle boot with all the comfort of a walking boot. For me it is proving to be a win-win and probably the most comfortable pair of motorcycle boots I have ever owned. Early days yet, but I look forward to putting these through their paces over the next year. If they do as well as the Poseidon suit then I should be a very happy motorcyclist in a year’s time.
